When you say the word ‘laser’ to many people, their thoughts will instantly turn to science fiction, aliens and humans fighting with their massively powerful and futuristic weaponry.  But lasers were first conceived more than ninety years ago by a little known physicist named Albert Einstein who came up with the theories everyone else would build on to create these images of the future.

Lasers are in use in more fields than many would ever imagine if asked to list them.  You probably not only know people who have come into contact with lasers, you have probably used them or products of their work on a daily basis.

Do you know anyone who has ever needed (whether because of bad work or because they changed their mind) tattoo removal?  Laser is the standard way of doing this and helps a great many people correct something which on reflection may have been a mistake.

How about laser hair removal?  Whether they admit it or not there are more and more people undergoing this treatment every year as they have excess hair which they want to get rid of permanently.

Do you know anyone who has undergone IVF treatment?  Using lasers to carry out precise operations encouraging eggs to split or performing procedures bloodlessly which would otherwise endanger a pregnancy are now commonplace in infertility treatment.

Even your car keys may have been cut using a laser to get precise results so that they cannot be easily duplicated.
